The East African Kidney Institute at the University of Nairobi, College of Health Sciences held a graduation ceremony of its first batch of students on 5th September, 2016.

The event which was graced by the Principal Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Nicholas Muraguri and the CHS Principal, Prof. Isaac Kibwage saw close to 40 health workers graduate after completing various preceptorship courses offered at the institute.

The Ministry of Health identified thirty seven health workers from Machakos, Bomet and Nyamira counties who were admitted to the program under the Medical Equipment Services Program that aimed to provide dialysis machines in all the forty seven county referral hospitals and enable a multi-disciplinary team improve their skills in renal healthcare and meet the Kenya Vision 2030 goal of improving the livelihood of every Kenyan.

The program was done in partnership with Africa Development Bank, Ministry of Health and Kenyatta National Hospital.

The first batch of thirty six students took the following Renal Preceptorship courses that run for twelve weeks:-

  • Preceptorship in Dialysis for Physicians and Medical officers
  • Preceptorship in Renal Nursing for Nurses
  • Preceptorship in Renal Nutrition for Nutritionists
  • Preceptorship in Renal Pharmacy practice for Pharmacists
  • Preceptorship in Renal Laboratory Science for Laboratory Technologists.
