EAKI set to roll out postgraduate program in renal nutrition

Renal Nutrition stakeholders workshop 2019

The East African Kidney Institute (EAKI) at the University of Nairobi College of Health Sciences is in the process of rolling out a postgraduate program in renal nutrition.

The Master of Science in Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics (Renal Nutrition) program is in its final stage of approval.

Speaking at a workshop to review the program’s curriculum by stakeholders, EAKI Director Prof. Peter Mungai said the 2-year-program is special for the continent because it is aimed at taking care of renal patients in Africa.

He said the demand for the program is high since dialysis was rolled out in all 47 counties in Kenya.

“We expect to admit the first batch of students next year and they will go a long way in serving both private and public hospitals once they finish the program and graduate in 2021. This program will produce workers and later on researchers once we roll out a PhD program,” Prof. Mungai said.
