The University of Nairobi has trained more than 300 experts for dialysis units in all the 47 counties.
In addition 30 medics have also been trained for Kenyatta National Hospital and the private health care providers.
All these practitioners were trained at the East Africa Kidney Institute (EAKI) based at the College of Health Sciences.
Speaking during the 62nd UoN graduation ceremony on 20th December, 2019, acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Mbeche said UoN in partnership with the Ministry of Health and the East Africa community had established the EAKI as a Centre of excellence for research and training on Urology and Nephrology.
During the graduation, 5 candidates graduated with fellowships in clinical nephrology, being the pioneer specialists in nephrology in the region falling between North of River Limpopo and South of the Sahara.
